Her emerald eyes gazed into his. "It doesn't have to be that way, you know." she chirped, her voice still light. "Good will always outweigh the evil, in the end. You just have to beleive that it will happen." her soprano vocals showed no signs of fear or sadness. "I was raised to find happiness in the world, and I do every day. Even the little things, such as birds singing or children playing." she said chuckling. :You could learn to do that, too. Even when it seems that evil is winning, they are not. Because those with evil intentions will never be truely happy, such as I am." the small smile crossed her beautiful face before she lay back down on her back, humming a peaceful tune.
The last of the light was fading from the sky and soon darkness would engulf the kingdom. But even in the dark, the moon and stars shown brightly. Alice liked to think of the good people as the moon and the stars, giving the world light even when it seems darkness has taken over. For no matter how dark it was, the stars still show in the night sky.

King Markus nodded. "You have a good point Alice" he said. "but darkness and evil will cause much pain around the land, even those who are truly happy. It seeks out ever crack and crevice in a person, to seep in and hurt them." He sighed. "But hopefull the good people shall prevail, and the evil shall be cast away.

"Darkness and evil never stopped me!" the fae said, parting her bright pink lips for a chuckle. "If a person is truly good, then no matter how much hurt is in their hearts they will still spread happiness to others. I feel like that is my goal in life. I think I was made to spread happiness to others. I try to do that every day." she place a gentle smile on her features. She watched as the sun disappeared over the horizon and the last spark of sunlight left the sky. The world was now englufed in darkness, but by the light of the moon you could still make out Alice's slight silouhette and her twinkling smile. "What is your duty in life, Markus?" her voice was sparked with curiosity for what he was about to say.

Markus thought for a minute. "I want to spread peace around the world, yet I feel alomst as if that is not quite right. So in a way I truly don't know. I want to stop all this evil, yet even that doesn't feel like my true calling. I have yet to find out, and hopefully I will before my time has come." he said thoughtfully. "But I do not wish to dally on my self, i rather worry about my kingdom and my people. And their needs, not my own. For they need things more than I do." He looked down. "Normal people live normal lives and need love, happiness, and care. Where as I, born into royalty, have found that we do not nessesarily need all of those things. Not as much as other's do. For our calling is not to be happy, not the least bit. But to make sure of the well being of our people. It is sacrafice, but not one we notice much."

The small fem thought for a moment before parting her lips. "You may not need all of those things, but to spread peace and happiness to your people you, first, must be happy too. Deep down, although you are royalty, you must feel the need to be loved and happy. If you lead your people well, they could grant you a happiness that no other being should be lucky to posess." She then lay on her back and began to sing the lulliby again. Although it was quieter and softer this time. She raised a single, thin finger and began to trace the patterns of the stars, making shapes and creatures out of them. In the background, almost as music to Alice's song, you could hear the gentle chirping of crickets, rubbing their legs together. You could also hear the sound of a lone wolf, howling. As sad as the wolf's howl was, it almost didn't seem sad in the reflection of the happy tune.

Markus nodded. "I know of that Alice. But have you never wondered why people of royalty have arranged marriges most of the time? It is because we often choose not to love anyone but our kingdom. It is as if we are married to it, or if it was a child. Needeing constant care and direction. As we have no time for love. Our happiness is gold and our people, our care is what we give. But, aye, I know this may seem odd to you Alice. But once I thought royalty could love another as they loved their land. But I believe that I am wrong. For royalty will always be cheating on their spouse with the land because that is who we love more."

"You are very wise for your years, Markus. As much as I value your opinion I beleive that you are wrong. Do not take this the wrong way, for you may have your thoughts and I may have mine. I beleive that creatures, especially humans, have the infinite capacity to love. I feel that as much as you love one thing, may it be with all of your heart, you will still find the courage that is needed to love another." her chirpy, sing-song voice was gentle, almost a lulling sound. She lay on her back and closed her green eyes. She was not sleeping, but enjoying the peacefulness of her surroundings. Here at the castle, for the time being, everything was at rest. Although the world was in darkness no evil lurked just yet. No matter how much evil seeped into the bright kingdom, Alice would always be a star, shinging brightly with hope and love.

Markus stood up. "Alice, you did not grow up as royalty, you have no idea how we are. Or even our duties. I must retire to my chambers now. I will see you in the morning." he said and went into the castle after he had put his boots back on. As he walked up the grand stairs he began to think about how he said what he said to Alice. Angry like.

Although Alice could not see the expression on Markus's face, she could guess that he was angry at her. Her face fell into a frown and her eyes lost their spark. She was upset that she had angered him. "Hmm." Her features weren't as cheery as before. She sighed and ended her cheery song. The fae hated it when she upset people. She would never intentionally hurt someone, but sometimes it turned out that way. Her petite frame skipped into the darkness, towards the forest. Markus had granted her freedom and she guess that he needed some time away from her. She danced through the forest, and climbing onto a tree limb, she laid down, her small frame only taking up a half of the large branch. She began singing her lulliby, but it drawled with sleepiness. Soon the sound of her own sweet voice drove her into unconsciousness.

King Markus went to his chambers. He did not sleep thawt night. He was up thinking about what he had said and the future of Arden, He decided he needed to go to the Fringe, and meet the Elfen king, but first he needed to go to Mt. Omega and get a weapon so he could defend himself if needbe. In the morning he got dressed and was prepared to go to the mountain.
